Vital Records

Vital Records
Welcome to Calhoun County Vital Records.

All applications for certified copies of vital record events must be in writing and completely identify the record, as well as satisfactorily establish entitlement to the record being requested. Entitled persons include the person named on the record or that person's spouse, children, legal parents, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, or legal representative or guardian. A photo ID including signature must be approved.

Application for a certified copy requires a fee of $15.00 for the record search and includes one certified copy. Each additional copy of the same record is also $15.00. If the record is not located, the applicant receives a notification to that affect. The $15.00 is retained for the search. Fees are payable by cash or money order made out to "Calhoun County Recorder". We now have the capability to certify all state wide marriages back to 1954. Births back to 1985, and Deaths back to 1954.
If you would like to print an application to request a vital record, please go to this site,  scroll all the way down to the bottom for the application.

The Recorder's Office does not have Divorce Records. They are handled by the Clerk of Court. 712-297-8122.

All signatures must be notarized. If the request is by mail, the applicant must sign in front of a Notary Public and include a clear photocopy of the applicant's current government-issued photo identification.

If you are interested in searching for your ancestors we may be able to help. We have the following records:
Birth Records: 1880 thru 1920; July 1st, 1941 to the present
Death Records: 1880 thru the present
Marriage Records: 1880 thru the present
Calhoun County also has a Genealogy Society. Our office can forward your search request onto the society. The Society will search vital and land records within our office for a small donation and cost of copies.

Another source that may help is the Iowa Genealogy Society. If you have any questions, feel free to call our office at 712-297-8121.
